2018 4-H Scholarship and Key Award recipients announced

A record number of exemplary applications were submitted for St. Croix County 4-H Leaders Association scholarships. Scholarships are awarded through association funds and individual endowed funds by supporters who share a passion for 4-H and the leadership and life skills it teaches.

St. Croix County 4-H Scholarships are awarded to 4-H members based on demonstrated personal growth, development and leadership, academic performance and future educational goals. Members must be currently enrolled as a St. Croix County 4-H member; be a member in good standing, have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and be enrolled or planning to enroll at a university, college, or technical school during the upcoming year.

This year's scholarship winners are:

4-H Scholarship - $600 (4)

Awarded to members pursuing a post-secondary education.

Awarded to a member pursuing a career in teaching.

Awarded to a member pursuing a career the human health field.

Awarded to a member pursuing a post-secondary education.

Awarded to a member pursuing a career in Dairy Science.

Foundation Scholarships

Two St. Croix County 4-H members were also recipients of Wisconsin 4-H Foundation Scholarships. Wisconsin 4-H Foundation Scholarships are awarded through a very competitive process and recipients are selected through applications submitted by 4-H members from across the state.

Alexis Kwak of the Sunnyside Shamrocks 4-H Club, Prairie Farm High School, was awarded the Oscar G. & Mary W. Woelfel Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,350. There are only two awarded throughout Wisconsin 4-H annually.

Catherine Schurtz of the Rustic Renegades 4-H Club, the College of St. Scholastica, was awarded the Elizabeth Salter-Eby Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $750. There is only one awarded throughout Wisconsin 4-H annually.

Wisconsin 4-h Key Award

The Wisconsin 4-H Key Award Program recognizes a select group of 4-H participants who have demonstrated consistent growth in their 4-H involvement, developed and applied their leadership skills and actively participated in the functions of their 4-H club and community.

To be eligible, candidates for this award must be at least in ninth grade or older, and must have completed at least three years of 4-H and one year of youth leadership. Selection is based on an evaluation of the candidate's total 4-H record (membership, projects, activities, leadership, personal development and county 4-H and community involvement.).
